Hi everybody! Some of you may have read my post from January, titled "A thriving yoga business in a poverty-stricken area?" I would like to share with you what has happened in regards to my yoga - teaching since then. I have not done anything different than before. The only thing I have changed since discovering this forum and since Harlan's reply to my post is my attitude toward this small town where I live and work. First, I received a phone call from the coordinator of a program called "Access to Recovery," a program for people with substance abuse issues. He was looking for "providers," who offer services that are beneficial for his patients. I submitted my application and was immediately approved. They pay more than I charge. As I said, I did not do anything to get this phone call; I didn't even know that this program exists. Then, I received a call from the public relation officer of the local hospital asking me to give a presentation at a health event for women. I was one of eight speakers, and afterwards seven people of a total of 36 attendees signed up for one of my new evening classes. As a matter of fact, because of these seven ladies I set up a class at a later time as most of them are still working. Some of them asked me via email if they can bring a friend or a neighbor. Again, I did not do anything to get invited to this event. Next, I never had so many new students for my current six-week sessions that started last week! I had to set up a separate class just for the intermediates as the church where I teach has now become too small! And I had not done any more advertisement than before. Lastly, one of my former students - probably the only millionaire in town - wants me to teach him privately. Isn't all this amazing? I am still vacillating between considering these changes as mere coincidence or as result of a changed mindset. What do you think? Namaste, Monika |

I'm so happy for you, Monika! Congratulations, and thanks for sharing with us... what a source of inspiration for the rest of us!
And I have to believe that changing one's attitude makes a difference. Great move, by the way getting that speaking engagement. The more you're out there the more people can find you. Do you routinely ask people how they found you? I find it really helpful to do so. |

Thank you for your reply, Christine!
Yes, I always ask a new student where he/she has heard about my class. A couple of years ago, I had various speaking engagements. After each presentation, I had several people signing up. I am thinking about contacting again some of the groups and organizations here in town. There are several like the TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) or the Weight Watchers who are always looking for a presenter. If you like to stand in front of a group and to talk about your classes, maybe this is something for you, too? Namaste, Monika |

As a matter of fact I just hosted a fundraising event in partnership with my employer to benefit Women for Women International.
Women for Women International We had 50 buisness women from the community and raffled off many items and services... among them three private sessions with me, as well as a yoga party for one winner and some friends. I'll keep you posted on how that pans out. Donating gift certificates has worked really well for my husband's buisness and got him lots of repeat clients. (He does valet auto detailing) So I'm taking the lead from him. |

Great to hear that you're having great success. It's amazing how a little bit of exposure and luck work well to get your business booming. Best of luck with your new client load!
