Harlan, In answer to your question "What will you do after yoga"?, my answer is rather unique. I never walked into my first yoga class until I was 50. I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis when I was 46. The yoga helped me keep my range of motion and eliminated the pain so I no longer needed to take pain relievers. I thought "This is fantastic! I have to share this" so when I was 56 I took a 200 yoga teacher training which took 9 months and am certified with Yoga Alliance. I have been teaching yoga almost 3 years. I currently teach private students in a health club (thanks Harlan!) and I teach a yoga class at a retirement community. Teaching yoga is my passion but my day job that pays the bills is working for 2 lawyers as a legal assistant. My long term goal is to teach yoga to seniors and people with minor disabilities when I retire (so it won't be for the money, it will be to keep me active and to help people). In my eyes its a "win-win" situation.

Hi Harlen.
I didn't begin taking yoga until I was almost 50. I became a teacher by age 51. At age 61 I teach 8 yoga classes per week, do 2 or sometimes 3 Thai Yoga Massages per week, run my Yoga studio, keep my website up-to-date, and have a full-time 40-hour/week job. I CAN'T WAIT till I'm 66, and can leave my day job behind and teach even more yoga and do even more Thai Yoga Massage. It is my absolute passion. I have a 401K, and between that, my social security, and my wife's social security, I don't think I will have any problems financially. Our house is paid for, and we have no credit card debt. I will continue to teach yoga as long as I am able. When I can no longer teach (and I'm guessing this will be somewhere between 75 and 80,) I will teach yoga teachers. (Actually I'm starting to do that now.) And when, and if I get too tired to even do that, I will continue to take yoga once a week, and just be around younger people that are yoga devotees. I just can't imagine not having yoga in my life - EVER. So, in answer to your question, "What will I do after yoga," the answer is - die!!! Be @ Peace, Douglas |
