HAPPY HOLIDAY’S YOGI’S My favorite part is spending time with my family and enjoying the eating festivities. This year I am living in a new neighborhood and there are many houses that have gone out of their way to decorate their entire outside yard and house with hundreds of lights. It is spectacular to look at.
All the lights sparkle and bring a real
Christmas feeling to the whole neighborhood. This is the first year I have wished I could be in snow. There are times that I really miss the mountains and the lush greenery of living in Canada on the west coast.
When my family sent me pictures of the
huge snow fall they got this week and of them playing in the snow, my
heart ached to be home with them. Hopefully next year….. In our lives, especially if you are in a relationship, have children to care for or have a career that you are helping or giving to people, usually we give so much of ourselves that the single person that needs a little TLC is our own selves.
This Holiday and before the turning of
the New Year, take some time off you mat and away from your busy
schedule to take yourself on a date. That’s right. If you don’t like
going places alone, time to move out of that and try something
different. Create a date for just you and only you. Choose a
restaurant you love, a quiet place in nature, the movies or your
favorite coffee shop. Maybe it is taking a new class of some kind
somewhere and go treat yourself. Possible reflect on the yamas and niyamas and be honest with your self about how you can commit more to living the life that you desire and being the person you want to be.
Take time to journal you thoughts and
keep it in a place you can often look at and be reminded of how you are
going to nurture and give to yourself this year. We Are Having a Continuing Problem It's called "Forum Spam." Either automatic bots or people hired to post obnoxious links have invaded the yoga forum. Each day I have to delete at least a dozen spammers to keep them from taking over the board. One of the reasons this is happening is because yoga teachers are not participating in discussions on the board. Please let us know what you would like to discuss or learn about and we will create a discussion group on the forum to take it back from the spammers. If you see a SPAM message, please let us know. It's hard to monitor the board 25 hours a day but that is what it seems like. Where Did All The Personal Time Go? As I write these words, the Challah bread for Shabbat is rising in the oven and I finished making Potato Latkes (potato pancakes) with my two youngest children. I'm sitting here feeling guilty. It's a Jewish trait. It's inherited at birth. What am I feeling guilty about? Well, I owe a bunch of people some video site critiques. I'm behind on work because I've spent way too much time taking it easy. You know, when you do three hours of yoga a day, you've got to make up that time someplace. I feel like this is a time for Mr. Myagi from The Karate Kid movies to step forward and say, "Look for the time when day kisses the night" or something profound like that. But the truth is, I've slowed down. Yes, Mr. Type A has become an A-, maybe even headed for a B+ And now I'm getting amused at life in the A lane. When a client balks at paying me my rates, I just take a deep breathe in, exhale slow, and head over to my mat. Now, I've added an elliptical machine to my office. It's larger than I expected but now i have no excuse for missing cardio. But when am I going to get all my work done? What have you yoga teachers done to me? Happy Holidays To All! Om Shanti Shalommmm,
