The Yoga of Elections Are you registered to vote? If not then make a point to register online. So who will it be, McCain or Obama. All of America is being totally shaken up by what is going on globally and in our economy. There have been many changes occurring and many people’s lives are being effected by it. Who wins this election is going to create the pathway to what happens on many levels in this country in the next four years. Every vote is extremely important, so encourage your friends and neighbors, and students to vote. For myself I am 100% in Obama’s corner. If McCain becomes president I think I will consider moving back to Canada. It seems that the yoga world has rallied to the message of change Obama is sharing. I don't think the country can stand four more years of war and stagnation. My teacher Shiva Rea ends her trainings and practices by calling out "Obama 08" and Wah! recently shared a pro-Obama video. As yoga teachers, we have an obligation to bring peace into the world. To me, it's pretty clear cut - peace or more war. The choice is easy.
If
you feel inspired, please log onto the forum and share with us your
thoughts about the election and your opinion or the candidates. How organized are you in your business? Having your own business and working for yourself can be great and definitely has it’s perks. However, like everything in life, there is always a front and a back. There are all the grueling and time consuming things that take your attention when you have your own business. It can range from paperwork, to having cancellations , an unsatisfied client, hiring or firing employees, creating a well rounded schedule if you have a studio, and taking care of the marketing aspects of your business. This can all seem more overwhelming or difficult if you have just gotten certified and are deciding to make a career move to a full time yoga teacher. There is a lot to do and think about and you may not now where to begin.
For
those of you who already have a studio or have a private based
clientele, there are times when you need some fresh ideas or just a push
in a new direction to bring about change and fresh energy. Whether you have a seasoned business or are headed on the road to change, let’s begin an exchange. Give other an idea of what you are charging for you classes in a studio and the kind of packages you may be offering. Also include the demographic are you are in. If you mainly do privates, let’s hear about how you run your business. What are you charging and do you have discount packages for your clients and how are you marketing yourself.
Sometimes it is good to hear what others are doing in various states and
it may help some of you grow your business or change things you are
currently doing.
Continue to stay rooted in the change that surprises you, Yoga and the Financial Crisis I just got off the phone with an old friend. He coaches financial advisors, real estate professionals, basically everyone who sells for a living. He has heard from the people he coaches about how their clients are in a panic mode. One woman lost nearly $400,000 in savings in the past month. Needless to say, she is angry and on the war path. Another woman called her broker about selling Wachovia. He told her, "They have plenty of money." Then Wachovia went under. She lost $20,000 and she has him laser targeted in her sights. People are watching their retirement money melt away to nothing. They have watched the government bail out the banks and the insurance companies while the small investors take a beating. My friend was in panic mode too. He was prepared to fire his staff to pare down expenses. I taught him three part yogic breathe over the phone. [See Sara, sometimes I DO listen.] Then I told him how to teach his coaching clients to breathe as well. And how they needed to listen to their clients in the panic state and teach them how to breathe deeply and let it go. As a yoga teacher, you should open your hearts and your minds to what your clients are going through. Right now, yoga for stress relief is in great demand. Teach your clients how to breathe. Teach your clients how to let go and stop trying to control their lives and be the witness to the natural ebb and flow. Set your mindset on wealth and abundance. Attract all that you want from the universe and be the rock your students can rely upon when things get rough. Om Shanti Shalommmm,
