Sara Offers More Adjustments You're about to see another tidbit from my upcoming DVD on yoga adjustments. In this video, I show some adjustments in child's pose. As you watch the videos, you'll note these adjustments are quite unique. I haven't seen them anywhere else. One thing to keep in mind is your own comfort level in doing adjustments. Some yoga teachers do not believe in ANY physical adjustments and I respect their beliefs. But my experience is the adjustments I do allow my students to go deeper and more fully connect into the asana. In addition, I believe when you take a student more deeply into a pose, you are building a new muscle memory for the future so when they want to go into the pose on their own, it may not be as challenging. If YOU are not comfortable doing physical adjustments, you will transmit this feeling to your clients. Before you do any adjustments, always check for permission from your clients and explain what you are doing as you do it. Above all, ask for feedback from your clients during and after the adjustment. As a yoga teacher, several of my students report going to classes and finding they miss the physical adjustments. To me, it doesn't matter if your class is large or small, you must connect with each student during the class as often as possible. I recognize in a class of 40 or 50 students you may not be able to offer a physical adjustment to each person as they are in ardha chandrasana but during the course of your class, you must be certain to connect with each student. During Savasana, I always make a point of adjusting each student in my classes. Yes, these means I have to move around a bit but I typically leave 10-15 minutes for Savasana. Once you get hooked on doing physical adjustments, your clients won't want to do yoga any other way. On a more spiritual sense, my hands on connection with my clients allows me to connect with them and make our yoga time together a shared experience. I find the physical connection transcends the boundaries people typically put up around themselves and they are more open with me about their experience. Be confident in your work with adjustments and I want to bless you and your clients to come closer to the divine light of the universe together. Peace and light, Sara PS. I know some of you were expecting me to report on my trip to the Global Mala. Unfortunately, God called home someone who was very close to me and I chose to attend the funeral and pay my respects to a very saintly woman.
Are You Ignoring Your Clients? There are a number of yoga studios in Boca Raton and not one is marketing correctly to their clients. These are strong words and I hope you will learn from them. The most important thing you should be doing as a teacher or a studio is staying in touch regularly with your client base. They will be your largest source of income a revenue. You need to treasure them, inspire them, and reach out to them regularly. Because of the problems in getting emails through these days, you should consider using an email delivery service. This is important because there is so much annoying spam being sent today, if you send a lot of emails at one time, it is likely they will not get through at all. You should try to connect with your clients by email each week. Perhaps you can have a weekly pose with a picture of you. Share some thoughts on healthy living or vegetarian diets. Recommend a book on yoga or spirituality. Your clients look up to you and will follow your suggestions. Of course, your schedule of classes and upcoming events should be mentioned. Here's an idea for you. We have all seen the traveling "yoga shows" that appear around the county. Have you ever thought of attending one of these shows with your clients? You let them know about the show and advise them about which classes would be appropriate for them. When you attend, you can eat as a group and share in their experience. You and your clients will grow closer together and you will be there as their guide as they venture deeper into yoga. Duplicating Success To find out how to post and use the forum go to:
