Sara's Adjustments Video

Hi everyone, it's Harlan and I was so busy last week giving a seminar in Las Vegas I just couldn't get to the newsletter.  And since I told a certain Yogini I would take care of it, well, let's just say I take responsibility for it.

Sara is in the process of creating a series of DVD's on yoga adjustments.  Surprisingly, there are no DVD's of adjustments available and we know this is the one thing you can do that will help your clients significantly progress in their practice.

Several yoga teachers have seen these DVD's and asked when they will be available.  We'll let you know as soon as possible.

A Message From Sara

Hello Friends,

My path brought me here. I am content with who I am, and the happiness is exploding inside me. - Laura S.,yoga student

This week I am sharing with you a short clip of video about physical adjustments. The video will be available as soon as it gets back from the duplicator. It is a hour long video with me showing you in detail how to adjust your students in a variety of poses. It is a beginner level adjustment video, one where you can get a friend, play the video and learn with detail and awareness how to enhance your students' postures.

The most amazing things about beginning to do adjustments is you become more familiar and comfortable with the body. Through touch and exploration your tune in to where people’s holding patterns are stored and through the adjustment your aid your student in going deeper, enabling them to feel and discover a newness in a yoga pose they haven’t felt before.

I was fortunate to grow up with a father who was fantastic at massage and Shiatsu. At a very young age I remember my dad giving me feet, neck and shoulder massages. He used to always explain the different accu-pressure points in the body. When I got a little older, He started putting me to work. It became my time to give back and share with him the styles of massage he taught me. When he was writing his book Nature’s Cancer Fighting Foods I was the one at his side giving him mini neck, back and shoulder massages to help revive his energy to write late into the night. I have always loved getting massages.

From my experience of receiving a lot of body work, I feel comfortable and confident with energy and the art of touch. Like anything in life, if you practice and explore …..you may find the gift of touch is in your fingertips. I have found that with my private clients adjustments are a positive that I bring to their session. The more I started doing adjustments the more I wanted to find different ways to adjust in poses.

The most important factor when doing adjustments Is to ask permission from your student. Be aware of any of their injuries and be sensitive to how far you are leading them in the pose. The second thing is to be sensitive to your students' bodies and make sure you are breathing with them. Breathe in unison with your client. The breath connects you to your student.  Take the time in your schedule to first test the adjustment you learned or made up and them take them to your students. IF you are not comfortable touching a body, your students will pick up on this. The more at ease and confident you are, the greater effect the adjustment will be.

Next week I am going to LA to participate in the Global Mala project. I am very excited. 10,000 people in the downtown LA convention centre. Wow!!! This is going to be an amazing pool of consciousness all gathered together to cultivate change, peace harmony and help to our planet  and people in need. If you are not familiar with this I encourage you to go to http://www.globalmala.com and find out what is happening in your city.

Be a part of this historic project. If you can’t attend the event in your area or there isn’t one then do a 108 sun salutations to join your energy, becoming a part of the whole.  Get your students together to join you as well.

You will get a full report of what I experienced when I return.

May blessing continue to shower upon you and may your light encourage you to continue stretching your consciousness to a higher level.

Love,

Sara

Harlan's Video Site Critique

Sara recently asked me to critique the website of a friend of hers.  I certainly hope they are still talking after this critique.  Go here to view the critique.

Harlan's Video Critique

If you would like me to do a video critique of your website, please request in on the forum.  Print newsletter subscribers receive all video critiques on disk in their monthly newsletter.  The yogi whose site I critiqued in our August newsletter wrote in:

"Thank you so much for your thoughtful and thorough review. It was eye-opening to view my website from the vantage point of a beginning yoga student. Based on your comments, I will do some "tweaking" and make it more beginning yoga-student friendly!"

Well, at least someone is still talking to me after a critique...

Getting The Phone To Ring
"Wow!" was the response I got from one yoga teacher who used the ad published in the August issue of our paid newsletter.  But the ad in the September issue will bring an even higher response.  And starting in this issue, we'll include the ad on your monthly CD so you can save the typing time.  Subscribe here risk free.
