Sara's Picks For The Week
If you are interested in going beyond teaching yoga and diving in deeper to the emotional response of the body in yoga poses then you may want to start learning Yoga Therapy. When Harlan hurt his ankle recently one of the members on our site recommended he buy this book. You don't have to tell Harlan twice to buy a book. (I think he reads nearly a yoga book a week.) He immediately ordered the book and as I was scanning his yoga section I noticed it was a book I didn’t have on my home self. The book has some pretty interesting material. It's about designing yoga sessions specifically for your client's specific needs. You will learn how to read your client's body and know what to do to correct problems. Before Harlan notices that I borrowed it without getting permission I will have to sneak it back on his shelf.

Sara Learns A Lesson
Hello yogis, You must learn to be still in the midst of activity and to be vibrantly alive in repose. - Indira Gandhi The sail on my ship has just shut down. Since I have come home from my trip to Los Angeles I have been charging full speed ahead. I was inspired and full of energy when I returned, with many creative ideas stirring inside of me. My internal clock was on overdrive and sleep was barely in my daily regime. I was enjoying staying up late hours and thoroughly indulging in my practice later on in the evenings when the remaining hours became mine to play and access my bubbling creativity. I was high on life and loving every minute of it. Everyday I felt I have so much to be grateful for and each morning I awoke excited with a smile on my face, ready to embrace the new day about to be painted before my eyes. Life is here for us to have fun and drink all of its goodness. Sometimes my energy level increased so high I didn't know how to turn it down. This was both fulfilling and unbalanced at the same time. I woke up yesterday with a brutal sore throat and my body screaming to me it was shutting down. I pushed courageously through my day, putting on my fanciest warrior armor. However, by last night I was a shriveled up snail needing a warm cozy bed and a cup of hot soothing tea. Today I had to cancel my day of clients and take time out to rest. This is not an easy thing for me to do. When our bodies speak to us we must listen. It feels like I may have strep throat but I am praying it is just a flu/cold and will pass. As a result of getting quite sick I have been reflecting upon my abundance of energy the past five weeks. It is amazing how much we can learn from ourselves when we want to be inquisitive and listen to our higher voice. I have not been channeling my energy appropriately. Now I am forced to stop and heal. In the meantime I am unable to be there for my clients and my work show stops. All my clients are very understanding and empathetic when ever I am sick, but I hate to not be there with them. Of course my body put the brakes on. Too much of anything isn’t good and causes imbalance. It doesn’t matter what it is. When we have to much excess, (of anything) food, caffeine, sugar- it comes to visit us in the body in different ways. I realized that I have been pushing too hard and not honouring that I do need rest more than four to five hours of sleep every night, especially when I am giving out a lot of energy to all my clients. This is my lesson to continue to love all the energy I have to give to others and be creative but to also be more aware of when I need to slow down. BALANCE---that word that often comes up on our mats and continually with our practice. Even though I have been so charged and happy, making sure I have down time and really do nothing is just as important as wanting to achieve like superwoman. Life continues to be busy and move at an accelerated pace, but it is how we maintain our center and continue to honour the place that we find ourselves. I am sharing my story with all of you in hopes that you will monitor your energy as teachers and continue to learn better ways to feed and nourish your bodies in every way to increase your radiant health.
Namaste, As is my way, I inquired about her business. And Michelle summed up her business in one word..."disaster." She didn't know how she was going to make payments on her lease. She couldn't write a check for herself after paying her staff. She was frustrated and wanted to close her spa and set up a one room massage studio. I gave Michelle one idea and invited her to the workshop Sara and I did for yoga instructors. Michelle recently emailed me and sent a post card from Capri where she spent part of the summer. Her business is booming. She is overjoyed and delighted to report that just one strategy did it... The strategy was to do a monthly mailing to her client list. In no time flat her schedule was full. The schedules of her staff were full. And here's the worst part... I couldn't get on Michelle's schedule unless I wanted to wait a week! The last time I walked in there, I got a crushing bear hug. She introduced me to her staff as "the guy who saved her business." And then she put me on the table and forgot I was her friend and made my hamstrings cry out in pain. How quickly we forget who our friends are! :-) Are you sending little postcards or flyers to your clients every month? This strategy might end up sending you on a vacation to Capri. Next time, she better take me... Our forum heated up last week. Lots of site reviews and looking over Craigslist ads. Special Notice: Next week - a new adjustment video from Sara. I've shown it to my Ashtanga teacher and she thought it was amazing. Standing Invitation: I will be happy to review your website or Craigslist ad if you post it on our forum. Go to our forum and post the web address for my response. Here are some reviews for you:
