Can You Help Me Here?

Hey everyone.  It's Harlan awaiting Sara's return from India next week.  I'm not even sure I'll get to see her because she turns around and leaves for Costa Rica the next day to go to Wah!'s retreat.

I'm heading off to the San Francisco Yoga Journal Conference and then some days of quiet by myself.

I would like to bring one yoga book with me (not asana based.)  If you had just one yoga book to bring to a deserted island, which one would it be?

Kindly go here to make your suggestions!

Thanks loads.

Welcome To Weight Loss Season

Every year people come into January making their resolution to make this the year to lose weight.  Of course, most people fail repeatedly at weight loss.  The reason for this is simple.

Most people are experienced dieters.  The word "diet" comes from a Latin root meaning to do something for a short period of time. And dieters will do anything for a short period of time expecting magically, their weight will be gone for good.

And the bottom line is, most diets work short term but they are designed so that no one can stay on them for any length of time.

A lot of people try to short circuit the weight loss process by having weight loss surgery - they get their stomach tied off to shrink its capacity.  Bad move.  Because the people never changed the behaviors that got them overweight in the first place, they just go out and force the capacity of their stomach to expand.

Besides, any kid can tell you, they're tying off the wrong end.  It's the mouth that needs to be closed.

All personal change that is going to be successful must start in the mind.  And that's where yoga comes in.

Yoga has the amazing ability to affect not only the body but the mind as well.

And by training the mind and body in yoga, slowly and gently working off the calories in a yoga practice, dieters finally have the chance to make lasting changes.

And you know who is the catalyst for change?  You - the yoga teacher!

This is the season when people are most open for personal change.  Now it's the time to strengthen your referrals campaign and bring in those new clients.

You'll find you don't need to drag people in to do yoga.  Just lightly tap them on the shoulder and you'll find them willing to change.

Are you up to the task?
