Why Most Yoga Teachers Lack
Financial Balance In Their Lives

by Harlan Kilstein

When I first began yoga lessons with Sara, my interest in marketing led me to ask her questions about how she marketed her services.  I soon discovered Sara was typical of most yoga teachers.  Her business was composed largely of classes scattered in different parts of town from early morning until late at night.

Compensation for these classes varied greatly from being paid per student attending class to a regular salary for each class taught, regardless of number of attendees. Sara explained this is the way most yoga teachers started out with their hopes of attracting private yoga students.  Until then, she scrambled to pick up classes.

I didn't like the marketing model in use.  If the goal is private clients, then the marketing plan must attract private clients.  Only if the goal was more classes should a teacher be pursuing more classes.  Click Here To Read The Rest of This Article

by Harlan Kilstein

At first, he did things like every dentist was supposed to do.  He opened up a bright shiny office, put an ad in the yellow pages, and began placing small ads in local newspapers.  Soon a trickle of clients began to flow into his office.  Yet Paddi Lund wasn't happy.

For one thing, drawing a constant flow of clients into his office was exhausting.  And if the truth be told, a lot of the clients he was working with weren't very pleasant to deal with.  At the end of the day, Paddi was filled with stress, anger and resentment.  He knew he had to act.

Paddi Lund wasn't happy being a dentist. To be sure, there were clients that were friendly and made his day. But there were also many clients who drained his time and his energy and left a vortex of negativity when they left the office. The negative clients not only affected Paddi but his staff as well. When a negative client had an appointment scheduled, none of the staff wanted to deal with them. No matter how nicely the staff behaved, the negative clients drew everyone down with them. Finally Paddi had enough bad days at the office. What he did may just take your breathe away...

Finding "A" Clients For Your Yoga Business

by Harlan Kilstein

Many years ago, I was very interested in fishing. I found it very relaxing. On Sunday's I would get up early in the morning and go to a local reservoir which was very peaceful. There I would stay for hours fishing but... I didn't catch anything. One day I realized each time I was there, an old man always had a bucket full of fish. I wondered how it did it. I gathered my rod and reel, packed up my tackle box and headed over to where he stood.

What Makes Your Yoga Teaching Special?

by Harlan Kilstein
www.buildyouryogabusiness.com

A number of years ago, a plumber was out with his wife attending a wedding. His pager went off and his answering service used the "911 code" to tell him it was an emergency. His discovered one of his regular clients had been flooded out. Now in the world of plumbing, a flood is good news. It means the insurance company is going to pay right away for a huge bill. He said good bye to his wife and showed up at the client's house still dressed in his tuxedo. He spent hours stopping the leak and drying up the mess. After several hours, he went home with the incident behind him - or so he thought.
